European Vacation Outfit Ideas + Packing Tips

Do you have a trip planned to Europe? Not sure what to bring? Look no further than our European Vacation Outfit guide from UO. From long days of city exploring to boat trips and beach days, we have photo-ready (and comfortable) outfits for any adventure.

What to Pack for a Trip to Europe

Let’s face it, one of the best parts of vacation is getting new outfits and accessories. Whether you’re headed to a coastal town of Spain, or walking the cobblestone streets of Rome, you will want your outfits to be the moment. But of course, we know your suitcase probably has a weight limit, plus carrying a large bag on crowded streets and trains is a hassle... So, our tips will not only be perfectly on trend but also consist of versatile pieces you can mix and match.

Staple Clothing

Whether headed to the beach or the city, elevated basics will allow you to create a variety of on-trend outfits. Some of our favorites for a European trip include:

Linen anything - linen pants, linen button-downs, linen dresses; whether needed as a beach cover up or for a day of exploring the town these airy and comfortable pieces are essentials, plus great layering pieces.

Sundresses, rompers and matching sets - the perfect one and done outfitting that can be dressed up for a night out or dressed casual for a daytime outing. A pair of classic trousers – from satin to wide-leg styles, these can be styled for anything from travel days to casual dinners.

Dressy outfits – A few occasion dresses, whether tiered, lace, satin will be a showstopper for a night out. Jumpsuits and maxi skirts are other great choices. Think of the statement pieces you want to show off in your next social post.

A versatile layering jacket - This is a must, especially as the weather in spring and fall months can be a little unpredictable. Denim, utility, or trench jackets are some of our tried and true. We also recommend adding in a packable rain jacket in case it rains on one of your exploring days.

If you have any plans to head to the beach or spa, make sure to bring a bathing suit or two.

Comfortable Shoes

One of the most important packing decisions you will make is the shoes you bring. Ensuring your shoes are practical for those cobblestone streets, uneven sidewalks, beaches and miles of walking will keep you happy. Trust us. We think a few pairs of classic but always comfortable shoes is the way to go and a great way to save packing space. Here is our must-have footwear:

Sneakers: If you are going to opt for one pair of shoes, it’s a comfortable sneaker. Brands like New Balance, Gola & ASICS will ensure comfort without sacrificing style. Opt for white sneakers that go with just about everything, and if you have the space, add a bold sneaker for a unique look.

A dressy shoe: For nighttime, especially if you are walking to dinner, we recommend a dressy sandal or a little kitten heel. Boat shoes are also a versatile option.

Boots: For chillier months, consider a waterproof or suede boot. Another practical yet on-trend option.

Beach shoes: Don’t forget flip flops if you are heading to the beach!

Practical Accessories

Complete your travels with practical accessories. These will instantly elevate your outfit, while making traveling easier.

A hands-free bag: A crossbody bag, fanny pack or backpack will allow you to be hands-free while exploring Europe. Opt for a leather or suede option to elevate any look.

And if headed to the beach, make sure you bring a beach tote for all your sun essentials. Speaking of the sun, don’t forget sun protection essentials like sunscreen, beach hats, and sunglasses.

Enhance any outfit with staple jewelry. A pair of classic hoops, a pendant necklace, and a watch are pieces that will go with just about anything.

Pack a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and help beat any jet lag.

Travel converter and portable charger: Take note on where you are traveling and if you need a converter. A portable charger is also great for long days of exploring.
