UO Community: Transgender Law Center
This Pride Month, Urban Outfitters is highlighting the work of the Transgender Law Center, the largest national trans-led organization advocating self-determination for all people. Founded in 2002 and grounded in legal expertise, TLC advocates for a world in which "all people are free to define themselves and their futures," and has seen litigation victories around employment, prison conditions, education, immigration, and healthcare. TLC's ultimate goal is to "protect and advance the rights of transgender and gender nonconforming people across the country."
The core of TLC's work at the moment focuses on the Trans Agenda for Liberation, a community-led guide that addresses the political, legal, and social violence enacted against transgender communities that "grows out of the work that communities and individuals are already doing." The goal was to build a framework to understand the forces harming trans communities, and how uniting can bring forward something new. The Trans Agenda also includes a digital care package containing meditations, short films and music, intended to showcase the vast talent of the community and let its listeners enjoy a moment of rest.
To help support and continue the center's ongoing work, $35,000 has been donated by Urban Outfitters. Click here to make your own donation to the Transgender Law Center.
