UOCC: P.A.I.N.T.S. T-Shirt Collaboration
Welcome to the UO Community page. With our new UOCC (Urban Outfitters Community Cares) initiative, UO plans to focus on amplifying organizations that are empowering change. We’re excited to be partnering with groups, organizations and individuals who are empowering their communities to be better.
In recent months, UO has been privileged to be able to support a handful of organizations with their philanthropic endeavors. One of those organizations is the P.A.I.N.T.S. Institute.
P.A.I.N.T.S. (Providing Artists with Inspiration in Non-Traditional Settings) is a Washington, DC-based non-profit organization that is committed to providing interactive, hands-on STEM+Arts based educational programs, activities and opportunities, primarily directed toward youth and young adults in underserved communities. In June, UO collaborated with P.A.I.N.T.S. on a successful project that had P.A.I.N.T.S. artists using UO windows to share their art and messages. This month, UO and P.A.I.N.T.S. are teaming up on yet another project highlighting the artists and their work.
With timing tied to the 57th annual March on Washington, P.A.I.N.T.S. ARTrepreneurs plan to design murals for the Gallery Place Urban Outfitters location in D.C. (737 7th St. NW, Gallery Pl Way); the finished art will be displayed at the stores. In addition to the murals, UO is also producing and selling a P.A.I.N.T.S.-designed t-shirt capsule collection showcasing the past work of the four artists collaborating on this new project (shop the collection below). All proceeds from this collection will be donated to the P.A.I.N.T.S. Institute!
Meet the artists:
Shawn Perkins
DC-based painter and muralist Shawn Mitchell Perkins is a nationally recognized visual artist and proud Howard University alumnus. Perkins uses is art as a means to “pay it forward,” and trademarks each piece with an electrical outlet, representative of how he uses art to connect with others and serving as the acronym for “Painting a Legacy Under God.”
Moses Rivera
Moses Rivera is a NYC born and raised Afro-Latino artist who uses his art to give a voice to the voiceless, displaying the hurt, pain, struggle and happiness of an oppressed people. In 2012 Rivera started a clothing company that focuses on representation and empowerment for kids through the messages on their wearable art.
Levi Robinson
Levi Robinson is a painter and muralist who typically uses his art to offer perspective around what it’s like to be human, living with brown skin. Robinson enjoys loosely interpreting form and bringing the viewer along for the ride by allowing “every stroke, every action” to remain a part of the layered construction of the final image.
David Zembrano
“Self-Schooled” painter and muralist David “DEZ” Zembrano draws inspiration for his art from everything he sees and experiences. Every piece of his art comes from an organic place, and he is a firm believer in “Keeping the kindness we’ve come to show one another.”
