Whether you like them mashed on sourdough, sliced, fried, diced or baked - we’ve all accepted the fact avocados are great. BUT, did you know you can grow your own avocado plant with just a glass of water and a few cocktail sticks?! In our 3 Ways To Style Vines post, we spied Homeware Stylist Rachael’s avocado plants and were so impressed when we discovered she’d grown them from the stone, we had to find out exactly how it’s done. Check out Rachael’s step-by-step guide and find out how to grow your own avocado plant at home.

First things first...

...now let's get growing!

Step 1 - Once you’ve finished your tasty avo on toast, carefully wash, peel and dry the stones.
Step 2 - Fill a glass with water and use toothpicks to suspend your avo stones from the rim. Make sure the widest part of the stone is sitting in the water.
Step 3 - Place your stones in a warm sunny spot. A windowsill is perfect! Refill with water when needed.
Step 4 - Your stones should start to sprout roots and/or stems in 2 – 6 weeks!
Step 5 - Plant your stones in soil when the stems are 6inches tall. Don’t forget to carefully remove the toothpicks.
Step 6 - Watch it grow, your stone is now a plant! Keep in a warm sunny spot and water 2-3 times a week.
