5 Minutes with
Kenzie
(@kidkenzy)

Each week, we're spending 5 minutes with some of our closest collaborators from the UO Community to learn a little bit more about them and what makes them tick. Here, Kenzie takes us through a typical day-in-the-life and lets UO in on her secret musical aspirations.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My home is Vancouver, B.C. and I am a business student at McGill while working at Saintwoods in Montreal.
What do you like to do when you’re spending time alone?
I like to write songs and make homemade applesauce.
Where is your favorite spot in your home? Why?
My favorite spot at home is definitely at the piano. The light is always perfect and everything I love is nearby, like my guitar and stacks of old music.
Describe your ideal day at home.
My ideal day is jumping into the ocean, making breakfast for my parents and friends, filling the day with music and falling asleep to a great movie.
What’s your favorite way to unwind?
Going for runs and watching Law & Order.
When you’re feeling down, what’s one thing that will always cheer you up?
Practicing classical voice so that I’m ready when Andrea Bocelli asks me to sing with him!

What would you like to sing with Andrea Bocelli?
“Con Te Partiro” a.k.a. “Time To Say Goodbye.”
How did you get into classical voice singing?
When I was 8, my mom asked me to pick an instrument so that I could begin to understand how discipline was foundational to great performance in all things. I had always loved to sing so when I told her that I wanted to do “voice” as my musical instrument, I assumed that I would be learning Avril Lavigne or Celine. It turned out that choosing “voice" meant classical soprano training, so my focus quickly shifted from “Sk8er Boi” to “Caro Mio Ben”... but it was all good.
Something new you’ve been trying to do?
Planting veggies and battling slugs (to protect the veggies).
What’s one thing that is guaranteed to make you happy?
Cold cereal for dinner in a faded yellow bowl.
Favorite account to follow on social media?
@round.boys and/or @avantgardecats are both great.
What are you watching right now?
Steven Spielberg’s “Taken” miniseries.
