How To Style Y2K And 90s Looks With Rhiannon Barry, Founder Of Ninety Fly
Revist the 90s and 00s with Rhiannon Barry, freelance stylist, vintage collector and Founder of Ninety Fly. We caught up with Rhiannon in her studio in London as she styles UO new season pieces with her archive collection to create iconic looks.
LOOK 1
I’m wearing the UO Spacedye Tie-Front Top and Flares and have styled it up with my beloved Christian Dior Rasta monogram handbag and boots. The 2-piece reminds me of a Missoni print with the colourful blended knit. Super-cosy and the flare works perfectly with the pointy toe.
The Dior print first came out in 2004 when I was a teenager, if I’m not mistaken. I remember seeing it first worn by Gwen Stefani on TV. My best friend’s older cousin had the whole collection at the time, and I totally idolised her. In fact, she got in touch with me about 4 years ago to say she had found the pieces in her loft and asked if I’d be interested in buying them, as she knew I collected vintage. Of course, I bit her arm off!

LOOK 2
I love this knitted off-the-shoulder jumper and skirt from the UO autumn collection. It’s super cosy and really easy to style up. As soon as I put on the UO jumper and skirt, it reminded me of a Gianni Versace campaign from 1994, where the models wore cropped cream knits and metallic skirts.
I haven’t yet been able to get my hands on one of the skirts from this collection, but I was lucky enough to track down a leather jacket that was released the same year. I’d been hunting for this piece since 2010! It’s a green pastel colour, with beautiful medusa gold buttons and I love the contrast with the cream knit.
I’m wearing a pair of classic Gucci horse-bit patent boots. The gold horse-bit buckle has been an iconic feature since 1953, and will remain so forever. I picked my pair up at a carboot sale in 2015 for £20. What a find!

I had to feature my favourite Moschino ‘cheap and chic’ knitted jumper. I love everything about this piece - the bold colours, crazy patterns and prints. I’m pretty sure I remember seeing this on an episode of Absolutely Fabulous in the 90s. Although it was an influential comedy show, not a fashion show, a clothes nut like me was inspired by this programme from a young age, and it gave me the confidence to dress in bright colours and prints.
So, with Ab Fab in mind, it was only right that I styled my Moschino knit with a tartan skirt from UO for a statement pattern clash. I’ve teamed it up with a pair of Patrick Cox pony skin pink loafers from the 90s. I’ve been collecting Patrick’s shoes since I was a teenager, as his shoes were the staple UK Garage shoe and remain iconic to UK fashion. Patrick made a comeback this year with a collaboration with shoe designer, Sophia Webster. I was lucky enough to be featured in a documentary about the collab, talking through my archive of PC shoes, which led to me being asked to style the whole campaign. It was an absolute dream come true.
This is my fav outfit from today, some people say ‘less is more’ but my motto is ‘more is more’.

So far, I have 9 pieces, but I need around 11 more to complete the collection. I’ve always been a fan of animal prints. And if it’s Moschino, what’s not to love?

I’m a huge fan of Mongolian fur coats, so when I came across this beautiful coat on the UO website I had to get it for my archive.
Fur trimmed coats were huge in the 60s and 70s. My first memories of these jackets was watching Lil Kim rocking one with a bikini underneath on MTV Base in the 90s. Lim Kim is undoubtedly my biggest fashion icon and really changed the game, inspiring women everywhere.
I would have loved to have done a tribute look to Lil Kim, but unfortunately, I don’t have the balls to wear a bikini with a jacket.
I’ve styled the UO Penny Green Coat with a 90s Jean Paul Gaultier sheer dress. I love the contrast between the red and the grey as it really makes it pop. This dress was a hand-me-down from my friend’s mum, who bought it from the JPG shop on Kings Road in the 90s. I’ve only been collecting the brand since I was gifted the dress about 5 years ago.
To finish the look, I’m wearing a pair of Patrick Cox snakeskin boots from the 00s. You’ll never believe it, but I picked these beauties up on Ebay for a fiver!
