Master Peace recently took over our 'gram (@urbanoutfitterseu) to live broadcast a set and give us a song-writing masterclass, straight from his home in London. We caught up with Master Peace (@masterpeaceldn) to chat what’s good in new music, memorable gigs and his top 3 uplifitng-tracks.
UO Live: We Chat To Master Peace
You live streamed a set for us on @urbanoutfitterseu – how often do you livestream?
I live stream a lot to connect with my supporters on a friendship level, and just to check in to see how everyone is. In terms of music, I mostly collaborate with my guitarist and just sing a few songs.
How does it compare to doing live shows?
It’s very weird in the sense that you don’t really hear the reaction. It's very odd to get messages via text and live comments when the supporters make noise after each song, but it’s still fun to do. I enjoy both sides.
You’re also wrote a brand new track for us, live. Where do you go for inspiration during lockdown?
During lockdown, I find inspiration from my music apps, listening to new and old music I’ve discovered whilst browsing Spotify and I try to gain inspiration from that. Writing the song was really fun.
Tell us about your most memorable gig…
My most memorable gig would have to be my sold-out first headline show at O’meara! That was insane, seeing all my supporters come out and enjoy my music with me was a blessing.
We read that you were discovered on SoundCloud, where do you go to discover and download new music?
I go everywhere to discover new music - anywhere from YouTube to Spotify to Apple Music to SoundCloud, anywhere I can get my hands on the new stuff.
Which emerging artists should we watch out for this summer?
I would say new artists you should watch out for are Deb Never, MISGOI, No Rome and Lauren Auder.
Name three uplifting tracks we should listen to and tell us why you connect with them:
The 1975 - Me & You Together. The reason why I connect with this song is because it’s the type of song I wish I had written, I love the band so much and in my opinion, it’s their best song.
Clairo - Bags. This song makes me feel happy and makes me wanna pick up my pad and write. Clairo's voice is so angelic and she deserves to be heard.
Deb Never - Swimming Pool. BIG CHUNE overall, everything about the song just makes you wanna have fun and get lit!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
“Be yourself, don't watch no one else.”
