Plan International X UO

UO is dedicated to helping young people and has always championed projects and organisations who provide vital support for communities and vulnerable groups around the world. The coronavirus crisis is having a devastating global impact, and Urban Outfitters is proud to partner with Plan International. We have donated £45k to the Plan International Coronavirus Appeal through the sale of our reusable face masks.

Plan International’s Coronavirus Appeal

Plan International’s Coronavirus Appeal is supporting the world’s most vulnerable children and communities.

For those already in desperate situations the challenge couldn’t be greater. Plan International is particularly focused on those in crowded refugee camps, without access to soap and running water and where social distancing simply isn’t an option.

For girls, the coronavirus outbreak is a crisis on top of a crisis. They face increased threats of sexual violence and sexual exploitation, as well as being less likely than boys to continue their education. They need our support now more than ever.

Together we are making sure they have access to education, health care, clean water and future opportunities they need to thrive.

Who Is Plan International?

Plan International is an incredible organisation working to create a just and equal world for children and especially for girls in over 75 countries – including here in the UK.

They work with young people and youth activists around the world to find out what meaningful change would look like in their communities and how it can be achieved.

They have stood in solidarity with girls across the globe, to change their futures in this way. But every day, girls are still being discriminated against just for being girls. There is still a long way to go to achieving equality for girls.

Act For Girls

Plan International is known for their crucial work in support of girls and young women all over the world, shining a light on injustices and issues affecting the lives of girls everywhere.

Across the globe, including here in the UK, girls still don’t have equal rights – and that must change. That’s why UO are standing with Plan International and young people as they campaign on the issues that matter most to them, from ending child marriage and trafficking to putting a stop to street harassment and sexual exploitation.

Did you know…

• 13 million girls are out of school because of conflict and disaster

• 2 out of 3 girls in the UK have been sexually harassed in public

• 41,000 girls under 18 are married around the world every day

Become A Youth Activist

It’s vital that young people’s ideas and experiences are heard and that they’re included in the decisions that will affect their lives.

That’s why Plan International has created The Act For Girls Toolkit. It takes you through how to organise a campaign, influence decision makers, get creative and amplify your message. Check out the helpful links below to learn more and get involved!
