UO DIY: Make Your Own Tie-Dye Tee

Tie-dye is not going anywhere. Watch our guide to make your own tie-dye t-shirt or customise a canvas tote, bedding and jumper - upcyle anything you want with a psychedelic colour splash.
You'll need:
T-Shirt
Dye kit
Protective gloves
Rubber bands
Protective sheeting
How to:
1) Set up your workspace. Make sure the surface you are using is covered in plastic or protective sheeting.

2) Add dye powders to your dye bottles and fill to the top with water. Shake well.

Use less water to create brighter vibrant colours. Dilute dye more if you want a lighter colour.

3) Wet and ring out your T-shirt so it’s damp. Dry fabric won’t take to the dye as well.

4) Twist your fabric into a wheel and secure using rubber bands.

5) Pick your colours and start to dye. Make sure the dye is penetrating all the layers of your fabric.

6) Keep your item in the waterproof bag for at least 4 hours – overnight is best.

7) Thoroughly rinse your garment to remove any excess dye. We recommend you use a kitchen sink or do it outside.

8) Put your garment on its own in a normal 30-degree wash with some detergent.

9) Dry, wear, look great.
