Tell us your story.
I started athletics when I was 12 - I began with cross country and then I moved onto the track. I took it more seriously at uni and my career really took off from there - I've been doing athletics for 14 years now.
Tell us about your experience at Tokyo.
Tokyo Olympics was an amazing experience. It was completely different to anything I'd ever experienced before and it was my first major championship race I'd ever done. It was a big step up, but I had the best time.
Who's your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is Jess Ennis.
Sunrise or sunset?
Sunset - I'm not really a morning person and I definitely perform better at sunset.
What's on your training playlist?
House music! I love something upbeat to get me going.
What’s next for women in sport?
I think we are going to see more and more women having a big impact on sporting participation because of the increased backing they are now receiving from brands. Over the next few years I’d love to see more female coaches, more females in higher positions and greater equality for women throughout all different sports. At the moment, I probably know one or two female coaches and that's really low.
Why’s it important to have that visibility for women in sport?
I think it's important because it's good for the younger generation to see women who are just like them in higher roles and positions. This representation is a great way to inspire and encourage younger females to participate in sport.
How can the UO community support and help to drive change?
I think the UO community can help create a change in sport just by creating sportswear that’s comfortable and that people can feel good and confident in.
What's next for you?
2022 is a big year for athletics. There are quite a few major championships, so I'm just training for them at the moment and trying to get as ready as I can.
How can the UO community help to drive change?
Women are more likely to take part in sport if they’re confident and comfortable in what they’re wearing, so iets frans SPORT might be the push some need to want to take up a sport or start working out.
What advice would you give to people who are looking to get more involved in sport?
Join a few clubs and try out different sports, find what you enjoy doing. As well as getting more involved in sports it’s also a great way to socialise and meet new people. Plus, it has great mental health benefits.
