UO Hidden Neighbourhoods: Date Night in The Northern Quarter
Our UO Hidden Neighbourhoods series highlights the best local spots as chosen by our UO Community. This time, Daisy @daisybirchalll and her girlfriend Sabrina @hoysteds show us their favourite date spaces and LGBTQIA+ friendly locations in The Northern Quarter, Manchester.

Tell us who you are and what Hidden Neighbourhood you chose?
D: I’m Daisy and me and my girlfriend Sabrina chose LGBTQIA+ spots in Manchester City Centre.
Describe your route through the neighbourhood for someone who has never been before…
D: Start on Thomas Street or Stevenson Square, there are so many places to get a nice brunch. Then venture to all the little independent shops in NQ and be sure to visit Afflecks Palace. If you’re looking for a place for a drink, visit The Daisy (below Everlyn’s) or The Washhouse.
Tell us something about the area that you only know by being a local…
D: It ALWAYS rains.. literally everyday!
What do you love about The Northern Quarter?
S: Everyone feels comfortable enough to dress uniquely and be themselves.
Top 3 date spots?
S: Terrace, Lane7 and NQ64.
Describe the atmosphere of your neighbourhood…
S: Friendly and welcoming, there’s such a community feel to Manchester.
Advice to someone visiting Manchester for the first time…
S: Explore all the different areas of Manchester instead of staying in the centre because there’s loads of hidden spots that are worth finding.
Go-to fit for date night?
D: Khaki parachute pants, a crop top and a black bomber jacket.
S: Black parachute pants, a white T-Shirt and a puffer coat.
How does your neighbourhood allow you to express yourself and be true to who you are?
D: I have never been able to express myself more than I can in Manchester. There are so many LGBTQIA+ friendly spots so I can safely go on date nights with my girlfriend. The diverse range of fashion is incredible! Sometimes I walk around in a full faux fur outfit and mini skirt in the middle of winter and no one bats an eyelid.
