Accompanied by a 46-minute narrative film project, this album is a tribute to women and the spectrum of sexual identities. The 14 tracks deal with reckoning, celebration and reclamation, observing how Monáe is viewed by society, her acceptance of her reality and her own reclamation and redefinition of her own American identity to be her own authentic self. This album features contributions from Prince throughout with guest appearances from The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, Zoë Kravitz, Grimes and Pharrell Williams.
